Tricks to Save Your Hair from Summer

Between the natural elements and chlorine, summer can take its toll on your hair. With a few simple steps, you can protect your locks into the fall.

Rinse first

Before you get into a pool, wet your hair so that your cuticles can soak up non-chlorinated water instead of the harsh, chemically-treated pool water.

Goodbye, Bun!

Don’t pull fragile wet hair into a tight ponytail or bun or you’ll risk breakage. Just go through it with a wide-toothed comb and loosely braid it or let it flow free.

Hair needs SPF, too

Your hair and scalp need sunscreen too. Powder SPF like Peter Thomas Roth’s Instant Mineral SPF 30 can be dusted in the hair to protect the scalp. For an SPF that’ll make your hair glossy and citrus scented, mist Frederic Fekkai Pre-Soleil Hair Mist generously through your hair.

Embrace the hat

Ultraviolet light damages the pigments in your hair. Not to mention dries it out! Make a fashion statement while protecting your hair with a stylish hat.

Mask the problem

After a day in the water and sun, reintroduce moisture into the hair shaft with a post-washing mask. Kerastase Masque Age Recharge is a great one. Apply it twice a week if your hair is parched from the summer sun.

Air Dry

Why add more heat to hair by blow-drying it? Add a little product and let your hair dry naturally for an always sexy beach wave.
