Things to do This Weekend in Denver

I’m new to Denver. I moved here at the end of January and I’m still working on getting the lay of the land. But one of the cool things about moving to a new city is exploring and finding fun things to do over the weekend! Here are a few things I’ve found in my new city that make for a pretty fun weekend adventure.

I went to the Botanic Gardens a couple of weekends ago. My parents were in town visiting and my mom loves plants and flowers. I secretly only wanted to go because of the Chihuly exhibit. Overall, it was a pretty great day. The gardens are beautiful, and the blown glass throughout the compound really adds a nice touch. And as the sun sets they light the Chihuly exhibits for nighttime viewing, which seems like it would be very pretty.

I would say this would be a great place for a date, a cool and different thing to do with a group of friends, or great to do as a family outing. It’s even great for small children, as there’s plenty of open space where they can run around. But, maybe keep an eye out to make sure they don’t run into a Chihuly creation.

Last weekend three of my childhood friends came to visit and we did a good old-fashioned girls weekend. We went shopping at the outlet malls by Castlewood. We hit the happy hour at Pizza Republica in DTC on our way back into town and had a huge night out at Punch Bowl Social on Broadway.

Our last night together we realized we had unintentionally color coordinated our outfits. So on our way to dinner, we walked passed Union Station and did our own impromptu photo shoot. If you haven’t been by Union Station in a while, it’s definitely worth the time out of your evening. It’s beautifully constructed and just a really fun photo op!

One thing I didn’t realize about Denver is that it’s a relatively old city. The buildings downtown are made of brick and you can see old train tracks that have been paved over with streets. Even the businesses downtown have older constructed signs on the top of their building, and a more modern sign in front of their entrance. If you have time to do a walking tour of the city, there’s plenty to look at and lots of fun facts to discover!
