The Coziest NYC Bars to Sip a Cocktail in this Winter

When the snow hits the streets of New York City, you don’t have to hole up in your inter-nest and go on a Netflix binge. Instead, pull on your Hunter boots, wander around for awhile enjoying the twinkling lights, snow-dusted trees and window displays. Then, duck inside one of these cozy NYC bars and warm up from the inside out.

The House | Gramercy Park

Charm exudes from every corner of this restored carriage house. Downstairs, there’s a casual vibe and you’re greeted with the sound of throwback jazz and the warmth of a fireplace; upstairs, the atmosphere is a little more formal. Wherever you choose to sit, you’ll enjoy noshing on any of their small plates while sipping a glass of wine or downing some winter cocktails.

Employees Only | West Village

Say hello to the fortuneteller at the door of this self-proclaimed speakeasy, then grab a seat by the fireplace and try the West Side Cocktail or the Quiet Storm. You can cast any remaining chill from your bones by hitting the dancefloor. The space is small and gets crowded—especially on weekends—so come on a weekday or call ahead for a table for a more intimate experience.

Schoolbred’s |East Village

Dark and woody, the décor in this Scottish-style bar makes this one of the coziest places in New York City to get winter cocktails. Order some hot toddies and catch up with old friends or get to know someone new. The quiet atmosphere is intimate without being romantic.

Bar 21 & Lounge | Midtown West

A central fireplace and comfortable, oversized chairs make this the perfect spot to enjoy winter cocktails like their Pumpkin Spice made with bourbon, bitters and, of course, pumpkin. The atmosphere is fairly formal, so make sure to don the appropriate apparel.
