The sun is shining. My winter boots have been stored away. Spring cleaning is done. Now it’s time to bring some summer into my home – and I don’t mean bringing out the seashells. Check out a few summer apartment decorating tips below to refresh your home.
Bedding. One of my most favorite ways to refresh my home is to add new bedding. End of spring and beginning of summer is a great time to change out your bed linens. Spoil yourself with a new purchase from one of your favorite stores – I never need an excuse to go shopping! If the budget doesn’t allow for a complete set, find an affordable duvet to cover your existing comforter or find new pillow covers. If you’re more ambitious try making a DIY headboard.
Pillows. New pillows on the bed. New pillows on the sofa. It’s so easy to add highlights of color to a room by adding great throw pillows. Bright colors or subtle patterns can change the entire look and feel of a room. If you’re having a hard time finding the right color or pattern, head to the fabric store to make these No Sew Pillow Cases.
Mirrors. Now that the days are longer, look for ways to capture the sunshine by adding mirrors to strategic locations throughout your apartment. Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and bedrooms placed opposite windows can immediately brighten a room. What’s better than natural light?
New accessories. The best way to de-stress from a tough day at work is to remember better days, such as when you were on vacation. During your summer trips, seek out great finds to add to your apartment décor. Keep your summer memories alive by finding cute frames to highlight your summer photos with friends and family. Summer doesn’t necessarily mean adding a beach or nautical theme to your rooms, so keep accessories to a minimum to avoid looking cluttered.
Flowers. Aim to bring home fresh flowers at least once a month or add a small flowering plant in a beautiful pot. Who doesn’t love flowers on their kitchen table? This is a perfect time to throw out a hint to your loved ones that you love flowers!
Paint furniture. If you’re a little more daring, update a piece of furniture by adding a little paint. Refinish an entire piece, turn a boring nightstand into a rustic masterpiece, or just add a few accent touches to your bookshelf. Check out Pinterest for endless ideas.
No matter how you decide to bring summer into your apartment, the time is now. Change your entire color palette or add just a few highlights to your decorating. Trust me, we all strive to make summer fun last as long as it can and what’s better than returning from an afternoon at a UDR pool into a refreshed apartment. What other ways do you look to “summer-ize” your apartment?
