With weather this nice and opportunities galore, there is no need to spend the summer sweating inside the gym. Spice up your workouts by attending some of these outdoor and waterfront fitness classes around New York City. So soak up some sun and incredible views of the city- while breaking a sweat. The best part? They’re FREE!
From June to September Brooklyn Bridge Park is host to dozens of outdoor fitness classes from sunrise Yoga to Ballet to Pilates and Zumba. Join the over 3,500 people that participate in the classes throughout the summer and admire the view of the Manhattan skyline, hey you might even be able to spot UDR apartment communities: 10 Hanover or 95 Wall.
Tuesday through Thursday choose Yoga, Boot Camp, or Tai Chi at Bryant Park. Close to Times Square, Bryant Park is surrounded by plenty of subway stations making it easily accessible from whatever borough you may be coming from. Classes are held in the morning, with the exception of Thursday evening Yoga. Be sure to check out the instructors for Yoga as they change every class!
Change up your workout by attending a morning Meditation or Tai Chi class on the Highline. Both classes held Tuesday mornings, start off the early part of the week focused and relaxed before jumping back into the hustle of the city. Maybe even check out the monthly Latin dance party with live bands from around NYC. What could be a more perfect location to center yourself or dance the night away than above the city streets?
On the south side of Manhattan from June through August, Union Square is home to Summer in the Square. These outdoor classes are led by instructors from different gyms like Crunch, the New York Health & Racquet Club, and Peridance Capezio Center. Classes include Rock Yoga, Kickboxing, Brazilian Burn, Hip Hop, and plenteous variations of dance, yoga and cardio exercises. Close to 21 Chelsea and View 34, jump into one of the several fitness classes every Thursday to burn off some stress after a long workday.
Lululemon partners with Hudson River Park this summer for Healthy on Hudson events Tuesdays and Wednesdays until August 16th. The classes vary week to week throughout the Tribeca and Greenwich Village waterfront locations. Make sure to bring your own mat and RSVP with plenty of time- as space for these weekly events is limited!
