Life’s a Beach- an NYC Beach Getaway

Need to switch up your beach routine? While NYC stalwarts Rockaway beach and Coney Island Beach have always been options, they can often be crowded. Plus, they won’t give you that “out of the city” feeling you’re looking for on hot summer weekends. Long Beach, Long Island is the perfect NYC beach getaway! Plus, the MTA has a fantastic deal to get you there! For just $22, the Long Island Railroad Getaway Package entitles you to: one-day round trip train fare, discounted daily beach admission, free Long Beach bus service, discounts on food & drinks at local restaurants, and hours of fun at this beautiful “City by the Sea”! Trains leave daily from Penn Station, which is just minutes from the five UDR properties in NYC!

During your day in Long Beach, I suggest strolling through the west section of Long Beach, where the streets are lined with charming beach homes that appear to have been built in the early 1900s. If you don’t want to walk, consider renting bikes to explore the area.

The food trucks that service the beach certainly aren’t just your run of the mill variety. What waterside excursion would be complete without a lobster roll or fish taco? Poseidon’s Kitchen truck had me covered.

Realizing no meal is complete without desert I went over to Odie’s food truck and washed it all down with some waffles and ice cream.

Since it has been said that you should always wait 30 minutes before going back in the water, I walked along the boardwalk and browsed the shops.

Check out the schedule and more info on the Long Beach NY Website!
