Love your Heart with These Heart Healthy Foods

During the month of February, Americans see the human heart as the symbol of love. February not only marks Valentine’s Day, but also American Heart Month, a time to show yourself the love. A healthy diet and lifestyle are your best weapons in the fight against heart disease. Great heart-healthy foods that include antioxidants, lean proteins, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids will help you maintain a healthy weight and keep your lipid levels in check for better heart health. And best of all, they taste delicious, too. Here are a few of my favorite recipes filled with good-for-the-heart fresh ingredients, healthy fats, and whole grains.

Appetizers & Snacks

There’s no need to skip the first dish when you make healthy appetizers!

Tuna Niçoise in Lettuce Cups

Vegetable and Goat Cheese Phyllo Pie

Hummus Dip

Cheesy Zucchini Bites

Molasses-Lime Meatballs

These main dishes use fresh ingredients and healthy fats to create heart-smart meals that are filling and fast.

Warm Spinach Salad with Pork and Pears

Beef and Beer Chili

Sweet Spiced Salmon

Dried Fruit-Stuffed and Spiced Pork Loin

Spinach Lasagna

Desserts don’t have to be a healthy-eating faux pas with these lighter, indulgent options. The key to enjoying your favorite sweet treat, while still following a healthy diet, is to consume in moderation.

Blueberry Crisp à la Mode

Chocolate Pudding

Chocolate Lava Cakes with Pistachio Cream

Strawberry Shortcakes
