Get off the Treadmill: Fitness Outside the Gym

I’m not really a fan of working out because the thought of running on a treadmill, staring at a wall, not really going anywhere just doesn’t sound like a great use of my time. Our time is valuable, so why not get fit doing something a little bit more fun? Check out some alternate ways for fitness outside the gym.

  1. Hike

Take your walk to mother nature. Find a nearby trail, national park, or mountain. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the outdoors rather than the inside of a gym. Join a hiking club to explore new trails!

  2. Team sports

You’ll forget about sweating when you’re going for the win. Join a softball team, tennis league, or jump on the court for some pick-up basketball. Your competitive nature will make the time fly by and the calories burn.

  3. Water recreation

Swim at your apartment’s pool or canoe down the nearby river. Residents of DelRay Tower apartments in Alexandria enjoy the close proximity to the Potomac River for kayaking, sailing, boating, and numerous water sports.

  4. Bike

So many new areas are becoming bike-friendly making a nice ride after work so much more convenient. Make a plan with a friend to visit top trails and conquer new routes.

  5. Dance

Have you’ve heard about how the stars on the show lose weight during their quest for the mirror ball? So why not sign up with your significant other or sign up for a class solo and meet new people. Classic, Latin, and even Zumba classes can be a social way to get fit.

What other ways can you get moving? There are numerous fitness tips for workout routines but get off that treadmill and let me know what works for you.
