Best Vegetarian Restaurants in NYC

It used to be difficult to find a single, decent vegetarian dish on a restaurant menu, let alone an entire eatery devoted to serving up meatless fare. With an increased interest in healthy eating, however, vegetarian restaurants are becoming more mainstream. Part- and full-time vegetarians alike are lucky to have some of the best vegetarian restaurants in the country right here in New York City. Here’s roundup of our faves.

Green Symphony255 W 43rd Street

The name says it all. Hot and colt buffets come together here to form a culinary combination that delights the senses and leaves you feeling full and satisfied. Not in the mood to mix and match to make your own dishes? Try some of Green Symphony’s traditional menu items instead—with or without meat. Pop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or have it delivered to your posh apartment instead.

Blossom – 187 9th Avenue

Located in Chelsea, this Zaggat-rated vegan restaurant features favorites like cashew cream ravioli and sweet potato gnocchi. Entrees are paired with wine from the eatery’s extensive list to enhance the flavor. There is plenty of seating on the main floor, and the upper floor is available for special events and large parties.

Hangawi – 12 E 32nd Street

When you’re looking for vegetarian fare with an exotic flare, look no further than Hangawi. Green vegetables are served alongside root vegetables, carrots and radishes for a thoroughly balanced meal. Select ingredients are even flown in from Korea for seasonal specials. Bring your appetite and your best pair of socks, because shoes are left at the door.

Champs Diner – 197 Meserole Street

Reminiscent of an iconic 50s diner, Champ’s is an all-vegan restaurant serving up hand-sifted pancakes for breakfast and a variety of soups and sandwiches and burgers for lunch or dinner. Grab a smoothie and ask for a day-old pastry from behind the counter (these goodies are only $1!) when you need breakfast on the go.

Candle 79 – 154 East 79th Street

The intimate atmosphere in this fine-dining establishment is the icing on the proverbial cake. The delectable menu includes innovative recipes with organic ingredients, many of which are also gluten free. Make your reservations online to avoid long waits during peak times.
