4 Space Saving Shoe Storage Ideas

Is it possible to have too many shoes? Many of our residents would answer that question with a resounding, “NO!” If your couture kicks or trendy treads are taking over your apartment, however, it may be time to rethink that answer and get rid of any shoes that you haven’t worn in a few years—even if they are red-bottomed Louboutins. Then you can organize the rest of your collection with these smart shoe storage solutions.

1.     Maximize the space you have. Rarely, if ever, do you hear anyone complain that they have too much storage space. The key to closet organization is to make the most of the space you do have by hanging clothing that groups according to length. This creates more vertical space, allowing you to stack storage boxes of varying heights underneath clothing to store your shoes. Be sure the containers have clear fronts so you can easily identify your shoes.  This apartment storage solution can also expand as your shoe collection grows.

2.     Use various shelf heights. Many people buy shoe storage racks with evenly spaced shelves, wasting valuable storage space. Instead, look for shoe racks with adjustable shelves and group your shoes by height. Flip flops, flats and sandals can be placed on a shorter shelf, leaving more room for pumps, wedges and ankle boots on a taller shelf.

3.     Conceal shoes in a shallow cabinet. Think outside of the closet when it comes to shoe storage solutions. A shallow cabinet placed in your bedroom or entryway is a great place to keep footwear when space is limited. Choose a style with solid doors to keep your shoe stash a secret.  Top the cabinet with a decorative accessories and/or a tray to keep your keys and other small items organized.

4.     Use storage drawers under your bed. Take advantage of the floor space under your bed. Underbed shoe organizers allow you to easily slide them in and out to find you favorite footwear. For added accessibility, you might want to consider a set of under bed drawers with wheels.

Whether you own 20 pairs of shoes or 200 pairs of shoes, organization is the key to keeping your closet from becoming cluttered. Make the most of the space you have by incorporating these ideas into your own apartment to make it look and feel even more luxurious.
