The 141st running of the Kentucky Derby is happening on May 2nd and there are plenty of viewing parties happening right here in New York City. So put on your most dapper bow tie or your most stylish sundress, grab a fabulous hat and check out any of these Derby events.
Located at 785 9th Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd, the Brickyard Gastropub is a high-end sports bar with 24 different craft beers on tap and an extensive collection of your favorite cocktails—including the must-have Mint Julep. Race-day celebrations include food and drink specials as well as a contest for the best Derby hat. Reservations are required.
Those that live closer to Brooklyn than midtown might prefer to attend the Run for the Roses viewing party at Kent Ale House. This local hotspot serves pub-style food alongside local craft beers and other spirits. Watch the race on their large-screen plasma televisions and enjoy some people watching as those in attendance vie for the Best Dressed award. Reservations are required.
Support the men and women who serve our country and enjoy a southern-style catered brunch before the race. The Junior Committee of the Solidiers’ Sailors’ Marines’ Coast Guard’s & Airmen’s Club is hosting its 6th Annual Kentucky Derby Party from 2 – 7 PM. Prizes will be awarded for the best bow tie and the best hat. A race raffle and silent auction will also be held. Advance ticket purchase is recommended, but a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
